Arena of Man Podcast Episode 5: The Benefits of Functional Fitness with Robert Butler

Ready…BUST ‘EM!

Ready…BUST ‘EM!

In episode 5 of the podcast, we step into the arena of health and fitness as I sit down with Robert Butler to discuss the benefits of functional fitness. Robert is Vice President of BSN Sports in Nashville, TN. He has earned his CrossFit level 1 certification and for the last several years has been heavily involved in Little Harpeth CrossFit in Brentwood, TN. I began working out with a group of men coached and led by Robert, and it has been transformational for me. I’m excited to share this episode with you, and hope it will encourage and equip you to take action when it comes to your health and fitness.

My conversation with Robert defines functional fitness and explains why it’s so valuable to your overall health as a man. We take time to dispel the idea that you have to “get in shape” before you can begin utilizing functional fitness. We discuss how “scaling” makes it possible for anyone to get involved. We also discuss the tremendous “band of brothers” potential created by these workout environments.

I’m glad you’re here, and hope that by “stepping into the arena” you’ll walk away with a plan of action to help you be your best as a man.

ACTA NON VERBA…Deeds not Words:

  1. Make an honest assessment of your current health and fitness level. Where are you succeeding and where do you need improvement?

  2. Do your homework. Look into different “functional fitness” options that are available in your area. Use the links below to search for the closest CrossFit Box, Iron Tribe location, or F3 men’s group. Or find some other fitness organization that you know of.

  3. Invite another man to join you in the journey. This not only provides great motivation, accountability, and encouragement, but it also builds your band of brothers.

  4. GO! Don’t wait till you’re in better shape to begin pursuing fitness. Don’t put it off another day! Make whatever sacrifice you need to make to get after it! It will be tough, but you’ll never regret it.
